This workshop (developed in association with the Ellen McArthur Foundation) uses oranges and the chemical resources that can be extracted from it as an exemplar to help explain the concept of the Circular Economy.
It is at heart a series of simple experiments to extract chemicals from oranges – limonene and pectin for example. The activities as a whole, however, challenge the concept of waste and demonstrate how, at least to an extent, industrial processes can work in a circular rather than linear fashion.
