Scottish STEM Placement Programme 2022/23
-
To inspire, enthuse and support STEM educators for the benefit of all learners
-
Overview
- The SSERC Scottish STEM Placement Programme (SSPP), in partnership with The Biochemical Society, is a fully funded professional learning offer connecting educators with industry partners, reflecting responsibilities outlined in the Career Education Standard and GTCS Standards for Middle Leadership. Life Sciences is an identified growth sector within the Scottish economy with varied job opportunities from entry-level to graduate-level anticipated over the coming years. The 2022-23 SSPP offers Teachers/Lecturers of Biology or Chemistry (working within state-funded schools and colleges in Scotland) a placement within Merck BioReliance Ltd., a Life Sciences STEM industry based in the West of Scotland Science Park in Glasgow, on 9th-10th May 2023.
-
Aims
The SSPP offers educators a valuable insight into the world of work, from employment strategies and roles within a Life Sciences organisation to processes for recruitment, and relevant skills and abilities needed to succeed in these industries. These insights will support educators to contextualise the curriculum for learners, enhancing learning and teaching by relating content to current and relevant local STEM industries and issues. Working collaboratively with your industry partner will support everyone involved to meet the expectations outlined in the Career Education Standard and ultimately support learners towards sustainable positive destinations. The SSPP aims to forge long-term connections between participating industries and schools/colleges.
