Environmental Science PL

We are looking to recruit ten secondary schools to engage in a four term, fully-funded Enthuse Partnership with Caterpillar and SSERC around the theme of practical activities for Environmental Science. The content will be aligned to SQA National 5 and/or Higher Environmental Science course specification.

The partnership will include:

  • An online launch event
  • A two-day residential course at SSERC HQ
  • Online sessions on STEM Engagement opportunities (Young STEM Leader Programme; STEM Ambassadors in Scotland; Nuffield Research Placements)
  • Support to make connections in your local area
  • Ongoing support throughout the Partnership
  • Equipment to use with learners in school, as well as support on how to use this.
Dates:
2nd May 2024 which is an online session.
30th – 31st May 2024 at SSERC.
11th June 2024 which is an online session.
Date TBC August which is an online session.
Closing date for applications: 15th March 2024.

Booking for this course is no longer possible as the closing date has passed.

Requirements

To be considered for the Caterpillar Enthuse Partnership, your centre must meet the following conditions:

  1. Be a Secondary School in one of the following Local Authorities:
Clackmannanshire Fife Dundee City
Falkirk Midlothian Perth & Kinross
West Lothian Scottish Borders East Dunbartonshire
Stirling Dumfries & Galloway East Renfrewshire
East Lothian East Ayrshire Glasgow City
Edinburgh City Angus North Lanarkshire
South Lanarkshire Renfrewshire West Dunbartonshire

2. Commit to at least one (up to two) teacher(s) per centre attending the two-day residential course at SSERC HQ in Dunfermline.

3. Commit to attending online information sessions and taking forward at least one of the three STEM Engagement opportunities in your centre during the partnership.

4. Environmental Science is, or will be, timetabled to run in your centre as of August 2024.

5. Attend an end of Partnership celebration and evaluation event.
