SSERC are offering a 1-day course held in Dunfermline at SSERC HQ to explore data analysis approaches in senior phase biology. This will include approaches in data science, data presentation and analysis approaches, and the use of R as a statistical and graphic tool.
The day will combine experimental approaches to generate data, followed by the analysis and presentation of data. There will be a focus towards projects for Advanced Higher Biology and skills that support learners at this stage of their education.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Reflect on current approaches in data science
- Understand the Data Replication Crisis and the implications of this on data presentation and analysis skills
- Appreciate the opportunities available by using R
- Use boxplots to evaluate data variability and the implication this has on sample size
Lunch and refreshments are included in the course fee at £60.

The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.
