• Suitable for First and Second Level

Not sure how to approach teaching Electricity at First and Second Level?  This SSERC Meet has been designed to increase confidence in teaching the basics of electrical circuits.

A SSERC Meet is an online twilight session for multiple practitioners, at no cost to your setting.  Successful applicants will receive a resource kit to support the professional learning, as well as access to supportive online materials.  You and your colleagues will join us live on Teams to take part in a range of activities using the resource kit provided, and will be able to ask questions and share ideas during the session.

With a focus on the Electricity Organiser across First and Second Levels within CfE, we will explore activities which could be used to help to meet:

SCN 1-04a and SCN 2-04a (energy transfers in electrical circuits)

SCN 1-09a and SCN 2-09a (electrical circuits)

By the end of this SSERC Meet you should be able to:

  • select, use and store batteries safely
  • make several simple electrical circuits
  • troubleshoot common problems with building circuits in the classroom
  • recognise the symbols for various components and draw simple circuit diagrams
  • understand how to investigate electrical conductors and insulators using a simple electrical circuit
  • describe the energy transfers within simple electrical circuits
